Australian-born Britsh conductor PETER LEECH won the second edition of the competition
On the 12th of October, the second edition of the International
Competition for Choir Conductors “Mariele Ventre” closed at the Aula
Absidale di Santa Lucia.
The competition, organized by the Foundation named after the
unforgettable conductor of the Piccolo Coro dell’Antoniano,
confirmed the importance of choral singing all over the world. 48
applications from 19 nations were received. The jury, chaired by
Maximino Zumalave (Spain) and composed of Stanislaw Krawczynski (Poland),
Francesco Luisi (Italy), José Manuel López (Spain), Marcel Seminara
(France), Pier Paolo Scattolin (Italy) and André Vandebosch (Belgium)
selected 12 candidates from 9 different countries for the final
stages.
On the 9th, the 10th and the 11th of October the jury examined the
12 candidates who conducted the choir “Ad Libitum”
from Sevilla for the Renaissance-Baroque repertoire, the “Cracow
Chamber Choir” for the Romantic repertoire and the “Coro
Euridice” from Bologna for the Modern-Contemporary
repertoire.
At the end of the three days, the jury, expressing great
satisfaction for the high professional level of the
12 candidates, selected 4 of them for the final stage: Virginia
Bono, Argentina; Marta Jakubiec, Poland; Lilyan Kaiv, Estonia and
Peter Leech, UK.
At the end of their performance, the jury designated two
winners: Peter Leech e Virginia Bono.
The first prize consisting of 5,200 € and the
Silver Cup of the Presidency of the Italian Republic was awarded
unanimously to Peter Leech.
The second prize was not awarded.

to Virginia Bono/strong>..
The third edition of the Competition will take place in 2005.
